Overview

CPT-022 is a preclinical small molecule therapeutic being developed by Mercaptor Discoveries for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) and neurological disorders. It specifically targets the vesicular glutamate transporter (VGLUT), a protein responsible for loading glutamate into synaptic vesicles. By modulating VGLUT activity, CPT-022 aims to regulate excitatory neurotransmission, which is often dysregulated in conditions such as epilepsy, neurodegeneration, and traumatic brain injury. The compound is part of Mercaptor's pipeline of "Capton" molecules, which are designed to remain inactive until they encounter specific biochemical triggers, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), at the site of tissue damage or disease.
