Overview

CPT-040 is a preclinical small molecule inhibitor of CD40 ligand (CD40L, also known as CD154) being developed by Mercaptor Discoveries for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions, specifically amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer's disease. The compound is part of Mercaptor's "Capton" platform, which consists of molecules designed to remain inactive until they encounter the high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) characteristic of diseased tissue. This site-specific activation is intended to concentrate the therapeutic effect of CD40L inhibition—a pathway involved in neuroinflammation and immune-mediated neuronal damage—within the central nervous system while reducing the risk of systemic immune suppression or thromboembolic events often associated with systemic CD40L inhibition.
