**CPV-101** is a moss-produced recombinant human complement factor H (CFH), a natural regulator of the complement system, developed by Eleva GmbH using a proprietary moss-based expression system to achieve high yields of properly folded, functional protein. It modulates the alternative complement pathway by rebalancing rather than inhibiting the cascade, addressing overactive complement activity while preserving physiological functions, with potential superiority over synthetic inhibitors targeting proximal or terminal pathway components. Primarily investigated for **C3 glomerulopathy**, it has shown preclinical efficacy in normalizing serum C3 levels, degrading C3 kidney deposits in FH-deficient models, modulating microglia reactivity, and attenuating retinal degeneration in light damage models mimicking age-related macular degeneration (AMD); however, its shorter half-life compared to native FH prompted development of an optimized glycosylated variant, CPV-104.[1][5][11][12]
