CPV-104 is a recombinant human complement factor H produced using a moss-based biomanufacturing platform. It functions as a close analog to native human complement factor H, a key regulator in the alternative pathway of the complement system. CPV-104 is being developed primarily for treating complement-mediated diseases by rebalancing overactivated complement pathways. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to normalize serum C3 levels and rapidly degrade C3 deposits in the kidneys, as well as dampen retinal inflammation and degeneration in animal models. It has shown promise in models of C3 Glomerulopathy (C3G) and dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The drug is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy volunteers and has received orphan drug designation in the EU for C3G. The molecule is produced by Eleva using a unique plant-based expression system, enabling scalable GMP manufacture of complex human proteins.
