Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CPX-301 is a dissolvable microneedle patch formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, being developed by Beijing Tide Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Sino Biopharmaceutical) in collaboration with Youwei Biotechnology (and its subsidiary Zhuhai Kerui Micro Pharmaceutical Technology). Designed for weight management and obesity, CPX-301 utilizes a biocompatible, soluble microneedle technology platform. The microneedles physically puncture the stratum corneum to deliver the macromolecular drug directly into the epidermis and superficial dermis, where it is absorbed into the systemic circulation via capillaries. This transdermal delivery system is designed to be applied for only five minutes before the microneedles completely dissolve, offering a painless, self-administered alternative to subcutaneous injections with significantly higher bioavailability than oral formulations.
