Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CPX-351 (Vyxeos) is a liposomal formulation containing a fixed 5:1 molar ratio of cytarabine and daunorubicin. Developed by Jazz Pharmaceuticals (following the acquisition of Celator Pharmaceuticals), it is specifically designed to maintain the synergistic ratio of these two chemotherapy agents within the bone marrow. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of adults with newly-diagnosed therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC), which are high-risk forms of secondary AML. The liposomal encapsulation enhances the delivery and uptake of the drugs into leukemic cells while reducing systemic toxicity compared to the traditional 7+3 regimen.
