Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CPX-351 (Vyxeos) is a liposomal formulation containing a fixed 5:1 molar ratio of cytarabine and daunorubicin. It is specifically designed to deliver these two synergistic chemotherapy agents to the bone marrow in a way that maintains the optimal ratio for killing leukemia cells while reducing systemic toxicity. Cytarabine acts as a pyrimidine analog that interferes with DNA synthesis, while daunorubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. CPX-351 was developed by Celator Pharmaceuticals (now Jazz Pharmaceuticals) and is FDA-approved for the treatment of adults with newly-diagnosed therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC).
