Overview
CPX-351 (Vyxeos) is a liposomal encapsulation of the cytotoxic agents cytarabine and daunorubicin in a fixed 5:1 molar ratio. This formulation is designed to optimize the synergistic delivery of the two drugs to leukemia cells while minimizing systemic toxicity. Cytarabine is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits DNA polymerase, while daunorubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. It was developed by Celator Pharmaceuticals (now Jazz Pharmaceuticals) and is primarily indicated for the treatment of adults with newly-diagnosed therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC).
