Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CR-200-2 is an investigational once-daily, extended-release formulation of the fixed-dose combination of naltrexone and bupropion. Developed by Currax Pharmaceuticals, it is intended for the treatment of obesity as a lifecycle management strategy for the currently marketed twice-daily formulation, Contrave. The drug combines naltrexone, a mu-opioid receptor antagonist, and bupropion, a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. These components work synergistically to target the hypothalamus, which regulates appetite, and the mesolimbic dopamine reward system, which regulates food cravings. By moving to a once-daily dosing regimen, CR-200-2 aims to improve patient adherence and convenience while maintaining the efficacy and safety profile of the original combination therapy.
