Overview

CR3 is a recombinant multi-epitope protein vaccine candidate developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana, Cuba, for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The vaccine construct is engineered to include highly conserved regions of the HIV-1 Gag, Pol, and Env proteins. By targeting these stable segments of the viral genome, CR3 aims to elicit a broad and effective immune response that can overcome the high genetic variability and mutation rate characteristic of HIV-1. Currently in the preclinical stage of development, CR3 is being evaluated for its ability to induce both cellular (T-cell) and humoral (B-cell) immunity, and it serves as a key component in CIGB's broader HIV vaccine strategy, which includes multi-antigen and multi-platform approaches like TERAVAC-HIV.
