Overview

CR8020 is a broadly neutralizing human monoclonal antibody that targets the stem region of hemagglutinin (HA) on group 2 influenza A viruses, including H3N2 and H7 subtypes. It binds with high affinity to conserved epitopes in the HA stem, blocking viral fusion and entry into host cells. The antibody has demonstrated both prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy in preclinical models, preventing mortality when administered after infection. Its mechanism involves direct neutralization of virus as well as potential engagement of Fc-mediated effector functions at higher doses. Developed originally by AIMM Therapeutics and further by Crucell (now part of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine), CR8020 is being evaluated primarily for prevention and treatment of group 2 influenza A infections, with clinical trials reaching phase II for the H3N2 subtype[1][2][5].
