Overview

CR9114 is a human monoclonal antibody with broad neutralizing activity against influenza viruses. It targets a highly conserved epitope in the stem region of the hemagglutinin (HA) glycoprotein, inhibiting both viral entry and egress. Unlike most antibodies that are subtype-specific, CR9114 binds to and neutralizes all major influenza types—A, B, C, and D—by blocking a critical function of the HA protein required for viral fusion and infection. The antibody is being developed primarily as an intranasal spray for mucosal administration to provide immediate protection at the site of viral entry in the respiratory tract. This approach aims to offer rapid prophylaxis against seasonal flu epidemics as well as potential pandemics by targeting entire families of influenza viruses regardless of strain variation or mutation. Preclinical studies have demonstrated efficacy in animal models; clinical development has reached Phase 2 for certain indications[1][2][3][5][6][9][10].
