Overview

Cranberola is a natural dietary supplement developed by Weber & Weber Biologische Arzneimittel, specifically formulated to support urinary tract health and aid in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). The product typically combines a concentrated extract of cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) with acerola cherry (Malpighia glabra) extract. The primary therapeutic effect is attributed to proanthocyanidins (PACs) found in cranberries, which act by inhibiting the adhesion of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) to the uroepithelial cells of the bladder wall. By binding to the P-fimbriae of the bacteria, these compounds prevent colonization and facilitate the clearance of pathogens through urination. The acerola component serves as a natural source of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which supports the immune system and may contribute to the acidification of urine, creating an environment less conducive to bacterial proliferation.
