Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cranberry juice concentrate is a dietary supplement and food ingredient derived from the fruit of the American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon). It is produced by removing water from pure cranberry juice, resulting in a more potent form that retains most of the bioactive compounds found in cranberries. The primary active constituents include proanthocyanidins, anthocyanins, flavonols (such as quercetin), vitamin C, and other antioxidants. Cranberry juice concentrate is best known for its potential to help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) by inhibiting bacterial adhesion to the urinary tract lining. Other purported benefits include supporting heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, improving digestive health through modulation of gut bacteria, reducing risk of ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, strengthening immune function due to its antioxidant content, and promoting oral health by preventing dental plaque formation. While widely consumed as a beverage or supplement for these reasons, evidence for some uses remains limited or inconclusive[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
