Cranberry proanthocyanidins (PACs) are a class of polyphenolic compounds extracted from the North American cranberry (*Vaccinium macrocarpon*). In oncological research, specifically regarding esophageal cancer, these compounds have demonstrated the ability to inhibit the secretion of Interleukin-8 (IL-8) and disrupt the IL-8-CXCR1/2 signaling axis. This mechanism leads to the induction of cell death in high-grade dysplastic Barrett's esophagus (BE) and esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) cells. Beyond their traditional use in preventing urinary tract infections, cranberry PACs are being investigated as chemopreventive agents to intercept the progression of Barrett's esophagus to adenocarcinoma.
