Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cranfluxx is a nutraceutical supplement developed by Ruhrpharm, primarily indicated for the prevention and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs). The active component is cranberry extract, which is rich in proanthocyanidins (PACs). The primary mechanism of action involves inhibiting the adhesion of uropathogenic bacteria, specifically P-fimbriated *Escherichia coli*, to the uroepithelial cells lining the urinary tract. By preventing bacterial attachment, the supplement facilitates the flushing of bacteria during urination, thereby reducing the risk of colonization and subsequent infection. It is marketed as an approved dietary supplement in Germany.
