Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cratoxylum formosum extract is a plant-derived extract obtained from the leaves or twigs of Cratoxylum formosum, a species used in Southeast Asian traditional medicine and cuisine. The extract contains polyphenols, flavonoids, and related phenolic compounds. It exhibits **cytotoxic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anti-cancer, and antibacterial properties** in preclinical research. Mechanisms demonstrated include induction of apoptosis in cancer cells (e.g., cervical, cholangiocarcinoma, skin), cell cycle arrest, suppression of cancer cell migration, **inhibition of NF-κB and STAT3 activity**, and antioxidant effects possibly related to upregulation of DAF-16/FOXO and heat shock factor pathways. The extract protects against oxidative stress, suppresses neuroinflammation, improves outcomes in animal models of gastric ulcer and amyloid-beta toxicity, and has been used in green synthesis of antibacterial zinc oxide nanoparticles.
