Overview

Creatine ascorbate is a stable salt compound consisting of creatine and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). It is primarily investigated for its potential to treat creatine transporter deficiency (CTD), a condition where the primary creatine transporter (SLC6A8) is non-functional. By linking creatine to ascorbate, the compound is hypothesized to enter cells via sodium-dependent vitamin C transporters (SVCT1 and SVCT2), thereby bypassing the defective creatine transporter. Research indicates it can delay synaptic failure during anoxia and may serve as an adjunctive therapy in cancer, specifically enhancing the effects of methylglyoxal in sarcoma models.
