crisdesalazine

Crisdesalazine (AAD-2004) is a multi-target small molecule developed by GNT Pharma for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Derived from sulfasalazine, it is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier and exert neuroprotective effects through a dual mechanism of action. It acts as a potent antioxidant by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and as a selective inhibitor of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1), thereby reducing neuroinflammation and oxidative stress without the gastrointestinal side effects typically associated with traditional NSAIDs. In veterinary medicine, crisdesalazine is approved in South Korea under the brand name GedaCure for the treatment of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CCDS). In human clinical development, it has progressed to Phase 2 trials for Alzheimer's dementia.
