Overview
Cristal Tears Plus is a multi-action ophthalmic lubricant used for the treatment of various forms of dry eye disease, including aqua-deficient, evaporative, and mixed types. Its formulation contains a combination of 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose, 0.9% glycerin, and 3% trehalose. Carboxymethylcellulose acts as a viscosity-increasing agent to improve tear retention and maintain tear film integrity. Glycerin serves as a lubricant that stabilizes the tear film and reduces evaporation, particularly beneficial in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction. Trehalose, a disaccharide, provides osmoprotection and bioprotection to the ocular surface by protecting corneal epithelial cells from oxidative stress, desiccation, and apoptosis. The product is preserved with potassium sorbate and is typically administered as one drop four times daily.
