CriVac is a proprietary vaccine platform technology that utilizes the non-pathogenic, monoxenous protozoan *Crithidia fasciculata* as a vehicle for the expression and delivery of recombinant antigens. Developed by the German biotechnology company CRI-Vac GmbH, the platform leverages the eukaryotic nature of *C. fasciculata* to produce complex proteins with post-translational modifications, such as glycosylation, which are often missing in bacterial expression systems. The protozoan can be engineered to either display antigens on its surface or secrete them, and the entire organism or its components can be used to stimulate the host's immune system. CriVac is designed to induce robust Th1-biased cellular and humoral immune responses, making it a candidate for vaccines against intracellular pathogens like *Leishmania*, as well as for cancer immunotherapy and COVID-19. The platform aims to provide a scalable and cost-effective alternative to traditional eukaryotic cell culture systems.
