Crocin total glycoside is a botanical extract comprising a mixture of water-soluble carotenoid glycosides, primarily derived from *Crocus sativus* (saffron) or *Gardenia jasminoides*. It is currently under clinical investigation by The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University for the treatment of liver cirrhosis. The therapeutic potential of crocin total glycoside is attributed to its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic activities. Mechanistically, it is thought to inhibit the activation of hepatic stellate cells and modulate signaling pathways such as TGF-β1/Smad and NF-κB, thereby reducing collagen deposition and liver stiffness. In clinical trials, it is administered as an oral tablet to evaluate its impact on liver function and elastography parameters.
