Overview
Cross-linked sodium hyaluronate gel is a sterile, transparent gel composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring polysaccharide, that has been chemically modified through cross-linking. This cross-linking process, often utilizing agents like BDDE, enhances the gel's stability, viscoelastic properties, and resistance to enzymatic degradation, resulting in a longer-lasting product compared to non-cross-linked HA. It is biocompatible and bioresorbable. The gel functions primarily by forming a physical barrier, providing lubrication, and adding volume to tissues. Its applications span various medical fields, including aesthetic medicine for facial tissue augmentation, wrinkle correction, and lip enhancement; ophthalmology for dry eye treatment and as an auxiliary material in surgery; orthopedics for intra-articular injections to treat arthritis and improve joint lubrication; and gynecology for preventing intrauterine adhesions after uterine surgery.
