Crotalus adamanteus antivenin is a biologic drug composed of purified immunoglobulin Fab fragments derived from the serum of sheep immunized with venom from the Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus) and three other North American pit viper species. The product, marketed as CroFab, is indicated for the treatment of envenomation by North American pit vipers, including rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths. The mechanism of action involves binding to and neutralizing venom toxins—primarily hemotoxins that cause coagulopathy, tissue necrosis, hemorrhage, edema, and shock—thereby reversing or preventing systemic toxicity. CroFab was developed through clinical trials in the United States and commercialized by BTG Limited. It is administered intravenously to limit systemic toxicity following snakebite[1][4][5][6][8].
