Overview

Croton membranaceus hydroethanolic root extract (CMERE) is a botanical extract derived from the roots of *Croton membranaceus*, a plant indigenous to West Africa, particularly Ghana, where it is traditionally used to treat prostate-related conditions. CMERE functions as an antiangiogenic agent, demonstrating the ability to suppress the expression of platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRβ) and reduce microvessel density in tumor models. Preclinical research indicates that it inhibits the formation of new blood vessels, disrupts vascular tree structures, and decreases microcirculatory routes, thereby limiting the nutrient supply necessary for the progression and metastasis of prostate adenocarcinoma. It is primarily investigated for its potential in managing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
