CRRL 101 is a novel bispecific peptide biologic designed for the treatment of cardiometabolic and cardiorenal diseases. Developed by researchers at the Mayo Clinic, it acts as a dual agonist for the guanylyl cyclase A (GC-A) natriuretic peptide receptor and the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R). By activating GC-A, CRRL 101 increases plasma cyclic GMP (cGMP) levels and promotes natriuresis. Simultaneously, its agonism of GLP-1R stimulates cyclic AMP (cAMP) production and insulin secretion. In preclinical rat models of diabetes mellitus, CRRL 101 has demonstrated the ability to improve metabolic parameters and induce cardiorenal protective effects, suggesting potential therapeutic utility in managing the complex interplay between diabetes and cardiovascular health.
