Overview

CRRL094 is a novel bispecific designer peptide developed by researchers at the Mayo Clinic for the treatment and prevention of diabetic cardiomyopathy. It is designed to simultaneously activate the natriuretic peptide system and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. In preclinical studies, CRRL094 has demonstrated cardioprotective effects by protecting against high glucose-induced hypertrophy and inhibiting lipid accumulation in cardiomyocytes. Its mechanism involves the regulation of the AMPK/CIDEC pathway, specifically increasing phosphorylation of AMPK and decreasing CIDEC protein levels, which leads to lipid-lowering effects in the diabetic heart. Preclinical data in type 2 diabetes rat models suggest that chronic therapy with CRRL094 can suppress hypertrophic markers and improve lipid metabolism, supporting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for diabetic heart complications.
