Overview

CRT + panitumumab is an experimental combination treatment regimen evaluated for the treatment of irresectable esophageal cancer. It involves the addition of panitumumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), to standard concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT), typically consisting of carboplatin, paclitaxel, and radiation. The regimen was studied in the Phase II PANORAMIC trial (NCT01262183) led by Radboud University Medical Center. The trial aimed to improve survival and pathologic complete response rates; however, it was terminated early due to poor recruitment and evidence suggesting that the addition of panitumumab did not provide a meaningful benefit and might have been detrimental in patients with adenocarcinoma.
