Overview

CRT 001 is a small-molecule partial agonist of the beta-1 adrenergic receptor that Cortice Biosciences is repurposing for neurological indications, particularly disorders associated with cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies.[1][3][9] Originally marketed decades ago as a cardiovascular therapy for heart disease, the compound was later withdrawn for non-safety and non-efficacy reasons, leaving a substantial historical human safety database.[3][9] Cortice’s preclinical work has demonstrated that beta-1 adrenergic receptor modulation by CRT 001 can favorably influence tau pathology and cognitive endpoints in models of Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia, positioning it as a targeted neurotherapeutic candidate leveraging a well-characterized pharmacology with a novel CNS application.[3]
