Overview
Cruf-OZ is an oral fixed-dose combination tablet containing the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin and the nitroimidazole antiprotozoal ornidazole. Marketed by Croise Pharma, it is indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and parasitic infections, including those of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, and urogenital tract. Ofloxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Ornidazole is reduced within anaerobic cells to form reactive intermediates that cause DNA strand breakage and inhibit nucleic acid synthesis. This dual-action approach provides broad-spectrum coverage against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria as well as certain protozoa.
