Cryoprecipitated Fibrinogen Complex is a pathogen-reduced, concentrated source of fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, Factor VIII, Factor XIII, and fibronectin derived from human plasma. It is manufactured using the INTERCEPT Blood System, which utilizes amotosalen (a photoactive compound) and long-wavelength ultraviolet (UVA) light to inactivate a broad spectrum of viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Developed by Cerus Corporation, it is the first pathogen-reduced fibrinogen concentrate approved by the FDA. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and control of bleeding associated with fibrinogen deficiency, including massive hemorrhage and acquired hypofibrinogenemia, often used in surgical settings such as liver transplantation or cardiac surgery.
