Overview

Cryptosporidium immune whey protein concentrate, also known as BACI (bovine anti-Cryptosporidium immunoglobulin), is a bovine-derived biologic therapy developed by Univax Biologics for the treatment of cryptosporidiosis, specifically in patients with AIDS. It is produced from the whey of hyperimmune colostrum collected from cows immunized with *Cryptosporidium parvum*. The product contains high titers of specific IgG antibodies intended to provide passive immunity within the gastrointestinal tract, neutralizing the parasite and reducing the severity of diarrhea. Clinical development reached Phase 2 trials in the 1990s but was ultimately discontinued following mixed efficacy results and corporate restructuring.
