Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Crystalsol** is a Baxter balanced isotonic intravenous crystalloid electrolyte solution containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate, and sodium gluconate. It provides volume and electrolyte replacement, with acetate and gluconate functioning as metabolizable strong anions that support buffering and correction of mild-to-moderate metabolic acidosis while avoiding the high chloride burden of normal saline. It is marketed in Italy for fluid replacement, intraoperative fluid management, hemorrhagic shock, and mild-to-moderate metabolic acidosis; it has also been studied as the balanced-crystalloid component of a septic-shock trial.
