CS20AT04 is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of HLA-haplo matched bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Developed by Corestemchemon (formerly Corestem), it is designed to treat autoimmune conditions, specifically systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its complications, such as lupus nephritis and lupus cytopenia. The therapy leverages the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs to regulate the aberrant immune response characteristic of lupus. Clinical evaluation has included Phase 1 safety and tolerability studies in lupus nephritis patients, where it was found to be well-tolerated at doses up to 3.0 x 10^6 cells/kg, as well as investigator-led Phase 2a studies exploring its efficacy in both lupus nephritis and lupus cytopenia.
