CSA-MM is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate belonging to the ceragenin (cationic steroid antimicrobial) class, being developed by Kinnear Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with N8 Medical for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Ceragenins are synthetic, non-peptide mimics of endogenous antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), characterized by a bile acid-based scaffold with facially amphiphilic properties. While the CSA platform is primarily recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities, CSA-MM is being investigated for its potential antineoplastic effects. The mechanism of action in multiple myeloma likely involves the selective disruption of cancer cell membranes or the induction of apoptosis, leveraging the cationic nature of the molecule to interact with the negatively charged components of the malignant cell surface.
