Overview

CSII + linagliptin is a combination therapy consisting of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), commonly known as insulin pump therapy, and the oral antidiabetic drug linagliptin. CSII delivers rapid-acting insulin continuously to maintain basal glucose control and allows for bolus dosing at mealtimes. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases endogenous incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon release. This combination targets multiple pathophysiological aspects of type 2 diabetes mellitus, aiming to improve glycemic control, reduce HbA1c levels more effectively than monotherapy, and potentially lower required exogenous insulin doses. Clinical studies indicate that combining CSII with DPP-4 inhibitors like linagliptin can accelerate achievement of glycemic targets in type 2 diabetes patients[1][4]. Linagliptin is developed by Boehringer Ingelheim.
