CSL402-XEC is a self-amplifying mRNA (sa-mRNA) vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of COVID-19, specifically targeting the SARS-CoV-2 XEC variant. It is part of a next-generation vaccine platform developed by Arcturus Therapeutics in collaboration with CSL and Meiji Seika Pharma. The sa-mRNA technology (STARR) incorporates a viral replicase that allows the mRNA to replicate itself once inside the host cell, potentially enabling lower doses and more durable immune responses compared to conventional mRNA vaccines. CSL402-XEC is delivered using the LUNAR lipid nanoparticle (LNP) system. In Japan, Meiji Seika Pharma is conducting Phase 3 clinical trials to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity as a booster dose in individuals aged 12 years and older.
