Overview

CSL404 is a cell-based pandemic influenza vaccine candidate developed by CSL Behring (through its subsidiary Seqirus) specifically targeting the H5N8 strain of the Influenza A virus. Unlike traditional vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, CSL404 utilizes a cell-culture manufacturing platform (typically using MDCK cells), which allows for a more rapid and scalable production response during a pandemic threat and avoids egg-adaptive mutations that can compromise vaccine efficacy. The vaccine is designed to induce active immunity by presenting the viral hemagglutinin (HA) antigen to the immune system, stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies to protect against infection and severe disease caused by the H5N8 subtype.
