CSP-270

CSP-270 is a novel, selective glucocorticoid receptor agonist (SEGRA) formulated as a topical ophthalmic cream for the treatment of ocular inflammatory conditions. Originally developed by AxeroVision as AXR-270 and subsequently acquired by CS Pharmaceuticals, the drug contains the small molecule GW870086. It is uniquely designed for once-daily application to the external surface of the eyelid, where it forms a depot that delivers the active ingredient to the ocular surface each time the patient blinks. This delivery method and the selective nature of the agonist are intended to provide potent anti-inflammatory effects while minimizing common corticosteroid-related side effects, such as elevations in intraocular pressure. CSP-270 has completed Phase 2 clinical trials for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) and is being evaluated for other indications including uveitis and diabetic macular edema.
