CST-109 is a small molecule adrenergic compound developed by CuraSen Therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Parkinson's disease. It was designed to enhance or mimic the activity of norepinephrine in the brain, targeting the adrenergic system to address symptoms associated with the loss of noradrenergic neurons in the locus coeruleus. CST-109 was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT04245644) alongside other candidates (CST-101 and CST-103) to assess safety, tolerability, and central nervous system (CNS) effects in both healthy volunteers and patients with Parkinson's disease. The compound aims to restore noradrenergic tone, which is critical for maintaining cognitive function, arousal, and inflammatory control in the brain.
