Overview

CSX-3002 is a high-affinity monoclonal antibody being developed by Cessation Therapeutics for the treatment of nicotine addiction and smoking cessation. Unlike traditional monoclonal antibodies that target biological proteins, CSX-3002 is designed to target and sequester the small molecule nicotine within the bloodstream. By binding to nicotine, the antibody prevents it from crossing the blood-brain barrier and reaching the central nervous system, thereby blocking its psychotropic and reinforcing effects. This "immunopharmacotherapy" approach aims to disrupt the addiction cycle by neutralizing the drug of abuse before it can exert its pharmacological action on the brain. Preclinical studies have demonstrated the ability of Cessation's nicotine antibodies to block the behavioral effects of nicotine in animal models.
