Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CTα16 is a 16-amino acid peptide derived from the C-terminus of secreted amyloid precursor protein-alpha (sAPPα). It mimics the neuroprotective, neurotrophic, and synaptic plasticity-enhancing properties of sAPPα. CTα16 acts as an agonist of alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7-nAChRs) and stimulates de novo protein synthesis, which helps restore long-term potentiation (LTP) and rescue synaptic deficits. It is being investigated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. To facilitate blood-brain barrier transport, CTα16 has been formulated in brain-targeted liposomes (e.g., modified with cell-penetrating peptide CycR9 or an anti-transferrin receptor antibody) or delivered via adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors (AAV-iCTα16).
