Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CT-010 is a proprietary intracerebroventricular (ICV) formulation of valproate/sodium valproate being developed by Cerebral Therapeutics to treat medically refractory focal epilepsy, particularly focal seizures with temporal lobe onset that have failed standard oral antiepileptic drugs including conventional oral valproate. In this drug–device combination product, CT-010 is continuously infused directly into the cerebrospinal fluid via an implantable pump, cranial port, and catheter system, achieving high central nervous system exposure while limiting systemic valproate levels and associated toxicities. Mechanistically, the active ingredient is valproate, a broad‑spectrum antiepileptic that enhances GABAergic inhibition (in part by increasing brain GABA concentrations), modulates voltage‑gated sodium channels and T‑type calcium channels, and exerts additional effects on neuronal excitability, thereby reducing seizure frequency and severity in refractory epilepsy.[1][3][7][9][10][11]
