CT-AUT is an experimental autologous cancer vaccine consisting of formalin-treated tumor cells derived from a patient's own metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). As a cell-based immunotherapy, it is designed to expose the patient's immune system to a comprehensive array of autologous tumor-associated antigens. In clinical practice, CT-AUT is typically co-administered with ACHN-IL2, an allogeneic renal cell carcinoma cell line genetically modified to secrete interleukin-2 (IL-2), which acts as an immunostimulatory agent to enhance the T-cell and natural killer (NK) cell response against the tumor. This combination therapy has been investigated in Phase 3 clinical trials, primarily led by the Azienda Ospedaliera di Bologna, for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma, focusing on endpoints such as overall survival and quality of life.
