Overview

CT-P42 is a biosimilar to aflibercept, developed by Celltrion, and marketed under the brand name Eydenzelt. It is a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a high-affinity inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and placenta growth factor (PlGF), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis. The drug is administered via intravitreal injection for the treatment of retinal diseases characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage, such as diabetic macular edema (DME). Phase III clinical trials have demonstrated therapeutic equivalence between CT-P42 and reference aflibercept in terms of efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity in patients with DME. The product has been approved in South Korea and the European Union for ophthalmic indications including DME; regulatory review is ongoing in other regions[1][2][4][5][6][7][8].
