Overview

CT-P51 is a **biosimilar of pembrolizumab**, developed by Celltrion. Pembrolizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (**PD-1**) receptor on T cells. By blocking the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2), it releases the inhibitory signals on T cells, enhancing **anti-tumor immune responses**. CT-P51 is intended to be functionally equivalent to pembrolizumab and is being evaluated in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy (pemetrexed and a platinum agent) for the first-line treatment of **metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)**. The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials and has not received regulatory approval as of July 2025[1][2][3][4][6][7].
