CTD-2292M14.1 is a novel long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) identified as a key mediator of radioresistance in cervical cancer. While typically expressed at low levels in cervical cancer tissues, its expression is significantly upregulated following ionizing radiation, which correlates with poor patient prognosis. Mechanistically, CTD-2292M14.1 interacts with the p62 protein (encoded by the SQSTM1 gene), facilitating its ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation. The resulting loss of p62 protein enhances cellular autophagy and suppresses radiation-induced ferroptosis, thereby protecting cervical cancer cells from DNA damage and apoptosis. Therapeutic strategies aimed at knocking down CTD-2292M14.1 or targeting the CTD-2292M14.1-p62 axis are being investigated to overcome radioresistance and sensitize tumors to radiotherapy.
