CTI-111 is a preclinical macrophage membrane-coated nanoparticle “nanosponge” therapy being developed by Cellics Therapeutics as an adjunctive treatment for sepsis and severe drug‑resistant bacterial infections. It consists of a synthetic nanoparticle core cloaked with natural human macrophage cell membranes, leveraging the native pattern-recognition and toxin-binding receptors on macrophages to adsorb and neutralize bacterial pore-forming toxins, endotoxin, and pro‑inflammatory cytokines that drive sepsis and cytokine storm. In murine sepsis models, therapeutic administration of a macrophage nanosponge agent (representative of CTI‑111) reduced inflammation and improved survival, supporting its potential as a host-directed, pathogen-agnostic countermeasure to both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens when used alongside standard antibiotics.[1][5]
