**ctrl-vax** is a preclinical control whole-cell melanoma vaccine used as the comparator for VEGF-C-expressing lymphangiogenic vaccine formulations. It consists of lethally irradiated, mock-transduced murine melanoma cells, including B16F10 or B16F10-OVA model cells depending on the experiment, administered with locally retained immune adjuvants. Unlike VEGFC-vax, ctrl-vax does not express vascular endothelial growth factor C and therefore does not deliberately induce local lymphangiogenesis. It was evaluated by University of Chicago investigators in intradermal mouse melanoma vaccination studies and generated weaker broad tumor-specific T-cell immunity and tumor protection than VEGFC-vax.
