Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CTx-2103 is a novel, trimodal, extended-release tablet formulation of buspirone hydrochloride developed by Cingulate. It utilizes the proprietary Precision Timed Release (PTR) drug delivery platform to provide a once-daily, multi-dose release profile designed to improve the management of anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. Buspirone is an azapirone derivative and acts as a partial agonist at the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A (5-HT1A). Unlike benzodiazepines and barbiturates, buspirone does not act on gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors and has no evidence for risk of dependency or withdrawal. The innovative triple-release mechanism aims to address challenges associated with buspirone’s short half-life that typically requires multiple daily dosing, potentially improving adherence and treatment outcomes for patients with anxiety disorders[1][2][3][4][5][8][10].
